The women taking charge at CAA protests

Rediff.com16 Jan 2020

In this winter of discontent, in every procession, in every demonstration, in every protest -- from Jawaharlal Nehru University to Jamia to Shaheen Bagh to the streets of Mumbai -- the front rows have been occupied by women. It's been weeks since women have been sitting in protest across the country against the newly-introduced Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed National Register of Citizens. The protests are a nerve centre of unwavering voices against what has been perceived as a discriminatory law. The women -- some housewives, some students with hijabs covering their hair, and others in full-length burqa robes -- are rallying against the 'Man' in what could also be perceived as a revolution for the 'weaker sex' in India.

Variation is key to my success as a death bowler: Bravo

Rediff.com14 Mar 2016

West Indies all-rounder Dwanye Bravo on Monday said trying out different variations is key to his success as a death bowler. "I focus on my bowing a lot because most teams that I play for in T20 cricket rely on my bowling. Yes my batting is important but they (the teams) rely on my bowling in the tough times and in death overs. Variation is key for my success. As a bowler." he told PTI. Talking about the ICC World Twenty20, the 32-year-old cricketer said the West Indies is definitely eyeing a semifinal berth from their group, which also has Sri Lanka, South Africa, England and Afghanistan. "The World Cup is always a great tournament to be in. I am very excited to be part of yet another World Cup. I was lucky enough to win one (World T20 in 2012). We lost in the semifinals in the last one (World T20 in 2014). "For us as West Indies team we want to take one game at a time and want to obviously qualify from our group and take it from there," he said.
